Greeley

Greeley is a bustling agricultural metropolis in North Central Colorado, in the so-called Front Range Urban Corridor. The city serves as the seat of Weld County, with an estimated population of 104,000 residents.

Renowned as one of the very first planned communities in the United States, Greeley was established in 1869 and went by the name “Union Colony.” It was established then by Nathan C. Meeker as an attempt to create a perfect and religious society.

The town was eventually renamed in honor of Horace Greeley, a former editor of the New York Tribute and one of the supporters of the “Go West” campaign. In 1886, Greeley was incorporated as a city.

The thriving city we know today built its industry on the backs of farmers. In fact, Greeley remains to this day as one of the major agricultural cities in the country. Explore the city and you will find historic sites dedicated to its past, standing alongside local arts and culture attractions.
