Loveland was founded in 1877 in an area right next to the Colorado Central Railroad, close to where it meets the Big Thompson River. The city was named after the president of the Colorado Central Railroad, William A.H. Loveland. In its early days, Loveland was an agricultural town which mostly produced sugar beets and sour cherries. In the late 20th century, its economy transitioned to manufacturing following the arrival of facilities under Hewlett-Packard, Hach, and Teledyne.
